October 2005—Leonard S. Parker has joined
B. Aaron Parker & Associates | Metropeligo as an architect emeritus.
In nearly 60 years of practice, he has been a leader in the movement
of contemporary architecture. Among his most noted designs are the
Minnesota Judicial Center in St. Paul, numerous buildings for the
University of Minnesota, and the Minneapolis Convention Center.
His previous design collaborations with Aaron
Parker include the US Embassy in Santiago, Chile; Lake Superior
College in Duluth, MN; and Opperman Hall and Law Library at Drake
University in Des Moines, IA.
Leonard was a senior designer
and project manager at Eero Saarinen's internationally renowned
architecture firm before starting his own firm, The Leonard Parker
Associates, in 1958. The American Institute of Architects awarded
him its Gold Medal in 1986 and the Firm Award in 1995. Conceived
from a foundation of respect for place, his work has won more than
120 regional, national and international awards for design, including
first place in 15 international competitions.
Leonard taught architecture at the University
of Minnesota for more than 30 years. In 2005, he received the university's
Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. He is a past president of
AIA Minnesota and the Minnesota Architectural Foundation.
