Metropolitan Growth Options 2020 | Twin Cities Region, MN
|
| Aaron Parker was one of three urban designers
who laid out growth options in the defining long-range plan for the
7-county Twin Cities metro. The region is already exceeding the plan’s
25-year forecast of one million new residents, a doubling of the current
population. Metropeligo evaluated three growth scenarios, portraying
the likely effects on the physical and social landscape. Presented
to citizens at all levels on its path to the Minnesota Legislature,
the plan rose to the challenge of clearly communicating the mesh of
development issues affecting quality of life, sustainability, economic
equity and land stewardship. Parker advocated for the "concentrated
growth option," making a case for dedicating parkland and natural
open space in proportion to the anticipated increase in population.
