West Side Waterfront
Redevelopment | New York, NY
|
| In 1987 the Municipal Art Society sponsored an
urban design competition to inspire redevelopment of 4.5 miles of
derelict industrial tracts along the Hudson River on Manhattan’s
West Side. Aaron Parker’s master plan won first place from among
more than 1100 international entries. Since 1998, dozens of the concepts
proposed by the plan have been built. New York Newsday identified
this project as the seed that grew into New York’s bid to host
the 2012 Olympics. The American Institute of Architects awarded the
project its Citation for Excellence in Urban Design in 1990. |
